Welcome Preppers and Survivalists,

Gor-Tex
A few years ago, the product called Gortex went 'off' patent, so other manufacturers can now legally manufacture expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) or generic Gor-Tex. This has allowed clothing manufacturers to reduce their prices for water-proof but breathable clothing.

Others
Needles to say, other manufacturers have been competing to develop other, more effective, breathable fabrics.

Military Surplus
I consider myself a so-called Luddite or Neo-Luddite because I hasten to adopt the latest trend, especially in prepping.

So, ... When The Sportsman's Guide had Operational Camoflauge Pattern (OCP) wet weather parkas (rain jacket) and wet weather pants (rain pants) for sale, about $150 for the jacket and $125 for the pants, I laughed.

 And, ... I laughed for a reason.

For the same $275, your family could purchase three British Gor-Tex jackets and three British Gor-Tex pants or three German Gor-Tex jackets and three German Gor-Tex pants from the Sportsman's Guide. Plus, with the current coupon code SH 1752, you could probably purchase another set with the savings from the coupon.

Note:
Needless to say, OCP wet weather parka and pants sold out in a very short time. Either they didn't have many (especially in the larger sizes), or there was a big demand.
