Gun-Free Freedom-Free  Zone
Alas, another gun-free freedom-free zone was attacked.

According to initial reports, the scumbag was one Robert Bowers. He illegally used an AR-15 type rifle and was able to kill people for about 20 minutes before the police arrived.

In other reports, another person one Cesar Sayoc has been arrested for sending several pipe bombs through the mail.

Needless to say, some in the classic media are blaming President Trump and the so-called Alt-Right for these two events.

We shall see, in the next few days because, both dudes survived.

Let me see, ...

Some folks burned tires, threw rocks, and ... grenades and firebombs. Plus, some of these violent folks illegally crossed the border.

Ooooh, ...

These same folks voted for a government that believes Israel should be destroyed.

In other words, ...

I'm surprised only five people were killed.

Anti-Freedom
I just wanted you to know, ...

Yes, the gun-control people uses the recently killed to press their agenda.

WHo would have thought, ...

The FBI is political, about firearms.

Global Warming
I little itty, bitty island was swept away, during a recent hurricane.

Supposedly, it's global warming's fault.

Hunters
Some people would rather have animals destroy the natural beauty of an island or spend millions of dollars trapping the animals rather then let someone hunt the invasive species and add hundreds of thousands of dollars to the economy.

Megan Kelly
What did Ms. Kelly expected when she made the move from FOX to NBC.

Instead of an international corporation that will reap huge profits from these standards?

Tesla
Ha, Ha, Ha!!!

Waiting
Somebody is starting to take all this political crap seriously.

The Wave?
Supposedly, the Democrats are going to sweep the House and Senate because everyone is upset with President Trulp's policies.

Well, ...

Maybe not.

Overheard

"The ballot box, not the Supreme Court, is where the fight for the right to keep and bear arms will be won or lost."

"When Volcker looks around now, he sees "a hell of a mess in every direction," including a lack of basic respect for government institutions, a current Fed that seems to be following a completely arbitrary benchmark and a "swamp" in Washington run by plutocrats."

I’d say microplastics in poop are not surprising,

"If you are a show about cultural commentary and you are too afraid to comment on the culture, especially when it's a component of the culture you had a hand in creating, then you are a show about cowardice."

"Those inclined to commit evil acts will still commit evil acts."

"But argument in this culture is no longer a vehicle with which to establish truth, standards, or the best way forward. Rather, it is used as a means of establishing who is the better person."

"... but truth be told using the military to protect a country’s border is the most common thing in the world and most countries do it."

"Clearly the point of this wasn’t to have rational people decide what is and what isn’t racist.  It was to exert power. ..."

they were fighting an overwhelming force,

"This is part of the effort to stigmatize gun owners. They want to choke off their support network, make it impossible for the NRA to do anything without criticism, then isolate people so they feel alone. The idea is that people who feel alone will eventually change their positions so they can be part of the crowd."

Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

An Imported Water Bottle
from Great Britain (ca 1755)
source
Metropolitan Museum of Art

Water
After breathable air and appropriate shelter, water is the most important item that you and your family can have in your emergency preparedness supplies.

So, ...

You need to make sure that you have enough drinkable water, but how much is enough?

I would suggest at least a two-week supply for every man, woman, child, and animal, under your care.

That's 14-gallons per person with a family of four requiring 56 gallons of water.

In other words, that's about 110 two-liter soda bottles, or ...

One 55-gallon water barrel.

Sgt. Derrick Bell, with the 574th Quartermaster Support Company,
picks up an empty  55-gallon water drum,
which was part of a Container Delivery System
during sling load training (ca 2010)
source
United States Army

But, ...
That's not where I'm going.

I'm headed to the local ...

Charity Stores
I was cruising one of the local charity stores when I found aluminum water bottles, for $1.50 each.

So, for six dollars, I bought four rugged water containers for me to have in my emergency evacuation kit or Get Home Bag (GHB).

A Bare Metal Aluminum Water Bottle

As you can see, they are very reflective, but I wanted something a little bit more ... tactical.

So, ...

Off to the local big box home improvement store for a can of spray paint.

Three Painted Metal Water Bottles with an Unpainted Bottle

Needless to say, I am a little disappointed because the paint is a little too shinny for me.

Oh, well.

By the way, did you notice the little blemish on the left hand water bottle?

It had a piece of tape that I didn't remove before painting.

Detail of Painted Water Bottle

Needless to say, I took it out to repaint it when I painted the last water bottle in the group.

Why?
For most uses, a plastic water bottle is going to be adequate. They are rugged, lightweight, and plentiful.

But, ...

I wanted something that could take a beating, wouldn't become brittle in extreme cold, and could be heated for a warm drink in the winter.

Camouflage
Needless to say, these bottles will see use, so the paint will fade, rub off, and ... just get messed up.

But, ...

Not a big deal because I will choose another subdued color and hit the shiny metal spots.

Vola! It's camouflaged

Fridays Thoughs and Other Stuff

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

Schreibwarengeschäft (ca 1988)
source
Deutsches Bundesarchiv

Last week, I talked about how you and your family need to be stocking up on the stuff you and your family normally use because prices are going up, up, and up.

Well, ...

There are certain items that you also need to be stocking up because they have gone up in price, drastically. These items have also 'disappeared' during times of trouble.

History
For some people, especially older folks, they can remember certain rifle magazines doubling, tripling, and even quadrupling in price, over a few days, weeks, and months.

Then, ...

These same magazines became unavailable because the government prohibited more from being manufactured

So, ...

Just Opened Package
from
Palmetto State Armory

I have started increasing my supply of magazines.

Normally
Every rifle needs at least 7 magazines. Six in ammunition pouches and one in the rifle. It's what the military calls a 'Basic Load.'

These magazines are loaded with 210 rounds, 30 rounds per magazine. Unless, you're one of those people that think magazine springs can get weak or will 'set,' then you'll have 196 rounds, 28 rounds per magazine.

Packing Removed to Show the Package's Contents
from
Palmetto State Armory

My Experience
Former soldiers know, some of these magazines will get lost, crushed, or ... just disappear.

So, ...

These seven magazines quickly become six, then five, then four, and sooner then later none.

And, ...

As we know, a semiautomatic weapon, without a magazine is a complicated (to load) single-shot.

Securely Wrapped Magazines
from
Palmentto State Armory
Other's Experience
Combat veterans will tell you having more loaded magazines is a lot better then having ammunition and unloaded magazines.

So, ...

You and your family should strive to have at least two basic loads of magazines.

In other words, ...

You and your family should have 14 magazines per rifle.

Fourteen Magazines
from
Palmentto State Armory

Preference
Some folks will discount my purchases because they like so-called plastic magazines.

Cool, to each their own. Especially you, my brother, Jumper.

But, ...

At $12.30 for a MAGPUL PMag, we (you and your family) can buy two metal mil-spec magazines from a U.S. government supplier.

Prediction
In four years, your family and friends are going to be soooo jealous when you tell them you bought fourteen 30-round magazines for under $100, not including shipping, from Palmetto State Armory.

No. No! NO!
I completely and totally disagree with purchasing ammunition and firearms to sell or barter during tough times.

There is a potential for the firearm and ammunition to be used against you. Plus, you might have some folks show up, with just their everyday carry (EDC), that you need to arm.

With that said, ...

It's something that you might want to think about, if ...

You have everything else squared away, such as an emergency fund, secure shelter, filled water containers, lots and lots of long-term food storage, medical supplies, firearms and ammunition for you and your family, weather alert radio, several tens, maybe hundreds, of ounces of silver, ...

Everyday Carry
The easiest method for dealing with an event is to not be there, so you and your partner need to look out into the future then determine where you want to live.

See a recession coming?

Move to the city, where there will be more jobs.

See an economic collapse with banditry?

Move to a small town in a state with a high percentage of firearms ownership.

See a violent revolution, with assassinations?

Don't run for office or live in a capital city.

And, ...

So forth.

The next easiest method of surviving a disaster is to leave. That's right, bug out.

But, ...

What happens if you and your family are on vacation?

"It’s a different story here. Our peasantry can complain: with guns and bullets. It’s almost happened a few times recently in the US, so this isn’t some abstract possibility, only applicable in theory. We’ve seen it. And the people who did it are, for the most part, still alive and not in prison. Some people will argue this is a bug. I think it’s a feature. It’s a feature because while I believe in democratic institutions, I don’t worship at the altar of majority rule. We’ve seen that democratic institutions can be coopted. We’ve seen it’s possible for an indifferent and entitlted majority to ignore minority interests completely."

"The court clearly declared that a state has the right to protect itself not only in matters of security, but also to fight boycotts against its products, culture or standing."

"I believe that the Christine Blasey Ford gambit was an extension of the sinister activities underway since early 2016 in the Department of Justice and the FBI to un-do the last presidential election, and that the real and truthful story about these seditious monkeyshines is going to blow wide open."
