Organization
We (you and your family) need to be organized; to what extent, I don't know.
But, ... I do know; everyone in the family needs to know where the first-aid kit is located, in your home and vehicles. Every adult or competent shooter needs to know where the spare ammunition is located for your family's defensive handgun and rifle, just in case. Every cook needs to know where the family's cook book, with recipes that you family likes, is located to prepare healthy meals using medium and long-term food storage, and sooo much more.
I also know, you, your immediate family, extended family, and close friends that are preparing for tough times need to be organized.
Yes, this means the group has common firearms (I suggest the SKS rifle and the .357 magnum revolver), common medical training (proper hand washing, CPR, first-aid, and other medical skills), a common meet up site (retreat), common radios for communications, and other group specific training.
But, ... Have you thought about the local, state, national, and, even, international organizations; you and your family should join?
In our local area, the community has a radio club, volunteer firefighters and ambulance crews, 4-H (Head, Heart, Hands, and Health), business groups, various book clubs, photography club, school science clubs, the high school band, and many others.
The state has political groups, business groups, civil rights groups, agricultural groups, and many others while nationally our country has organizations such as the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Businesses), Rotary International, Kiwanis, Odd Fellows, Eastern Star, and many, many others. Plus, let us not forget the religious organizations, locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally.
"Why?' you ask.
First, you and your family may learn skills that are unaffordable, anywhere else.
Second, you and your family have a chance to met like-minded individuals and groups.
Third, you and your family may learn skill that are unavailable, anywhere else.
Fourth, you and your family have a chance to met other people that may expand your knowledge about current and past events.
Fifth, probably the most important, you and your family have a chance for your voice to be heard, on important local, state, national, and international events.

Things You Might Want to Think About
1984
Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell) is one of my literary heroes. His books like Animal Farm, 1984, and others, to me, illuminated the evil in men's and women's minds that try to control our countries when I was younger. Now that I am older; I suggest everyone read them, at least Animal Farm and 1984.
With that said, the recent resurgence of 1984 tells me that, once again, Democrats, Millennials, and others haven't been paying attention for the last eight years, maybe 16 years.

10,000,000
Everyone has an agenda, even me. Some people want you to get prepared, while other people want to highlight their cause.
Either way, we must never forget, over 10,000,000 people were murdered by Nazi (National Socialists) Germany that killed homosexuals, Gypsies, people with disabilities, the Romani, Jehovah's Witnesses, Slavs, Catholic, and ... Jews
Banning Firearms
It's not about keeping people safe, lowering rates of gun violence, or increasing the safety of a community.
In other words, ... It is about control.
Complicated
A dictator is killing people because of their religious beliefs and their desire for 'freedom.' You say to your friends and family 'That's not right, and we need to do something' so your representatives listen to you and start supporting people to change the repressive government.
Well, ... These actions create an opening for some folks that want more 'freedom,' for their beliefs, such as stoning a women to death for adultery, prohibiting a women from leaving the house without completely covering her body, beheading non-believers, raping boys, and other 'freedoms.'
All the while, another government recognizes the danger of supporting 'moderate' groups against the dictator because there are no moderates. They are all dead, killed by both sides.
Then, ... Throw in the possibility that factions within our government recognizes the dangers of all these groups and has decided to get them to kill each other, so we can come in and more easily pick up the pieces, to our advantage.
Drugs
I agree, sort of.
The Generals
As y'all know, I am former military, so 'I see nothing; I know Nothing!!!' ; - )
With that said, having a bunch of current and former generals and admirals running various powerful government organizations, almost, guarantees that the current president's policies would continue, during a coup attempt.
The Media
I would like to make a prediction: The majority of people, highlighted by the project, will have problems with the recently sworn-in administration and will be frustrated with the new administration's policies.
In other words, ... Never talk to the media, even the local media.
Overheard
"It doesn’t seem unreasonable to believe that a shared American value should include that even when you’re passionate about an issue, trespass and vandalism of private property is inappropriate."
"The choice pushed by our betters is a world run by Black Lives Matters and women dressed as vaginas. If the other option is white pride, white nationalism and white supremacy, it is not hard to see how this is going to go."
“Cash allows us to remain anonymous during day-to-day transactions. In a constitutional democracy, that is a freedom that has to be defended,” tweeted the Green MP Konstantin von Notz."
"I think the CIA needs more oversight. Our intelligence community has very little oversight. There are only eight members of Congress that truly know what is going on in the CIA."
