Volume Five: Number Four

The Magpie
Claude Monet
(1868-69)

Right and Wrong
There is a right and wrong. No matter what other people say; some practices are wrong, take murder. It is against all that is good to wrongfully take a person's life, including an unborn child's. The same goes for rape, stealing, and other crimes that we can agree on.

And, ... Most of us still agree on that until we start saying, "But, ..."

Take illegal immigration and criminals. Ms. Hillary Rodham-Clinton, Ms. Nancy Pelosi, Ms. Priscilla Chan, Ms. Melinda Gates, and many other such as Amal Clooney believe fences, walls, and armed people patrolling these barriers work to keep villains, criminals, gang members, and other ne'er-do-well away from their precious families.

But, ...

They don't believe that for you and your family, and the same goes for firearms.

These women and many like them, correctly, believe having firearms on their property, in vehicles as they travel, on planes as they go from country to country, at church as they attend or visit them, eat and drink at posh restaurants and nightclubs is prudent protection for themselves and their families.

But, ...

They don't believe that for you and your family.

But, ... Why?

I can't start to answer that because I don't know these women and their families, but I do know that you and your family deserve the same protection. Our nation's citizens and visitors deserve a wall or fence, properly staffed, to protect your family. We deserve to carry firearms, in vehicles, on planes, in churches, in restaurants, in our national, state, county, and city parks, on the streets of our cities and towns, in the fields and forests of our farms, and anywhere else our families may go.

Because, ...

We can agree, as women and men, our families deserve to live a life free of murder, rape, larceny, and other crimes.

Fridays Thoughts and Other Stuff (Thinking)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

Sorry
I apologize about last week, but I had to leave

So, ... I'll try this again.

First, ..

You and your family need a sheet of paper. Fold it like a hot dog bun, narrow and long. Unfold it then draw a line along the crease.

Second, ...

On the left hand side, list all of the disasters that could affect your family.

Now, this exercise is important, so include everyone in the family.

Don't blow this off.

Everyone in the family needs to be a part of this threat analysis because it gives you and your partner a chance to see where everybody is on this 'prepping' thing.

Let me explain, ...

Your children might be concerned about missing school while you and your partner are worried about an economic collapse. Plus, it gives you and your partnert to talk with your children about the importance of being prepared for life's emergencies.

Third, ...

Once you have all the disasters and life's little mishaps listed on the left hand side of the page, I want you and your family to list them in order of 'likely to happen,' on the right hand-side of the page.

Now, ...

You can go from most likely to happen to least likely to happen or vis-a-versa. It doesn't matter.

Needless to say, ...

Families with younger children will probably either let them go and do their thing or take a break, so your children can help out.

Either way, .... Make sure to get them to help.

Fourth, ...

This part is only for you, your partner, and any mature members of your family, like your parents or adult children.

This part is where you go through the threat analysis and strike through any events that you and your family are unwilling to prepare for, such as nuclear war, armed conflict, or other event.

Let me explain, ....

Some people aren't getting prepared for the collapse of these United States, economically or politically. These folks believe these events are too extreme and aren't worth the effort to get prepared. Other folks might not get prepared for a nuclear war because it is too expensive, at least that is what they think. Lastly, some folks have a religious prohibition against taking someone's life, so they won't purchase firearms, for their family's defense.

Lastly, ...

I want you and your partner to look at all these disasters, big and small, and notice something?

They all require, basically, the same thing, such as ...

* An Emergency Evacuation Kit

* Smoke Detectors and Fire Extinguishers for your home

* An Appropriate Shelter

* Water and Food

* Some form of Protection

* Medical Supplies

And, ...

* Some other important categories

Needless to say, you are going to need to purchase some of these items.

Things You Might Want to Think About:

Burgers and Pizza
Jesse Jackson is just jealous.

Credit Cards
It is insane to think people are after you, ... Unless they are.

Constitution
Last time I checked, it was "with the advice and consent of the Senate," so the writer might be correct.

However, ...

The article is just another reason to bash Trump.

Delusional
Steven Rinella can say all he wants about how he is going to resist efforts to change MeatEater into an antigun company, but he doesn't mean it.

You know why?

He doesn't own the company

Democrats
It looks like another Democrat will be running for President, as a Republican.

Education
One, run from the cops.

Two, run from the cops with a dark coloured object in your hand.

Three, don't drop the object, when the cops tell you to.

Four, ...

CNN will post video of your mother, grandmother, friends and family calling for justice because your ass is dead, if you're black.

Electric Cars
With all these companies planning to get subsidies from Congress build electric vehicles, I wonder were the added electricity will come from, as we move to decarbonize the economy

Firearms
Oooh shoot, ... Someone took a gun on a plane.

And, ...

Nothing Happened

FedEx
I also think, reduced shipping is an indicator of declines in purchasing, especially by consumers.

And, ...

Since FedEx is a multinational cargo hauler, the buyout also shows the slowdown is international.

Infrastructure

We have a choice.

Raise taxes, keep taxes the same and spend it differently, or lower taxes but spend it differently.

Either way, ...

Our infrastructure, roads, bridges, government buildings, are crumbling.

Investigations
Investigate long enough and they will find misdoings.

The only problem, ...

We could do it to any politician and find similar things.

Judges
Congress passed the law. The President is suppose to enforce the law. The Courts define the law.

The President doesn't get to say 'No' to the law. Just like everyone else.

Meteor Showers
Wow, ... What could go wrong?

Just so you know, ...

In the '80s, one of the proposed ways to prevent the soviet union from attacking Europe was to launch, basically, crowbars into space. The crowbars would then reenter the Earth's atmosphere, at hundreds of miles an hour, then hit a tank, runway, factory, or other military asset, destroying the target.

Pizza
I like former President Bush; he can be classy.

However, ...

He, like many, fail to understand continually compromising will lead to the destruction of our country.

Power Production
We have Nuclear Power, Solar Power, Coal Power, and Gas Power.

Can you say, ...

Reductions
What do you get when a government takes peoples firearms away then reduce the number of police officers?

Shutdown
How true.

Space
I will say this again, ...

Letting China have the high ground and the lead in space exploration is a very poor idea.

Space, Again
Let me get this straight, ...

The Russians, English, Chinese, French, and several others can launch an attack against our citizens, possibly with nuclear weapons.

And, ...

Our only recourse is to launch a counter-strike, ... maybe

Still
Add one more thing to the list of 'Things that kill more people than firearms,'

Thieves
Dude, ... If you live in the big city, never leave anything in your vehicle.

Unintended Consequences
Homeowners failed to clear their property. The State of California failed to clear state and federal areas, and the power company failed to clear their lines.

And, ...

It's the power company's fault?

Walls
I hate to tell you folks, ...

Those Mexican, Central Americans, Africans, Russians, and all those other illegal immigrants coming to our country, they live in Hell, a Socialist, Totalitarian, Religious, Crime-ridden Hell made by their leaders.

A Hell that some representatives of this country wish to expand, to our country.

Zimbabwe
Let me see, ..

The people are poor and oppressed.

The government subsidizes the cost of an item.

The item cost more in a neighboring country.

Then, ...

The government wonders why there is a shortage.

Overheard:

"We will need more politicians who fight."

"... it also will determine if China will be a pillar of global growth—or a threat to the world’s financial stability."

"he's a terrorist"

"... the American people will be shocked to know that criminals still don’t like to follow gun laws."

"Yet if we follow the logic and evidence presented in these seven points, we are forced to concludethat the fractures in France, Germany and the EU are widening by the day, and that the ceaseless propagandaspewed by the ruling elites isn't mending the fractures or restoring the illusion of stability."

"The central role of China’s police force is to protect the Communist Party regime from popular uprisings, ..."

"It is a perfect example of "user pays" capitalism."

"While surveillance capitalism for marketing purposes is creepy, it becomes truly dangerous when these tools and database assets wind up in the hands of political actors with bad intentions."

"Ms. Pelosi and her Democratic Party House majority have been sent to their room now, awaiting a fateful conference with Daddy. A majority of the public actually does believe that the boundary-in-question with Mexico ought to be recognized in the way that normal nations recognize normal national boundaries: namely, that they are barriers to entry, and that rational procedures must be followed to go from one side to the other. Ms. Pelosi’s next step will probably be something like a few weeks of anorexia, or some other sort of self-destructive adolescent rebellion. Let’s hope she doesn’t try to burn the house down in her boundless rage."

"They’re targeting the best of the best. These kids are the best students. They’re the best athletes and they come from the best families."

"All we want is the truth"

"That's how Cultural Revolutions roll. The Nobility in our neofeudal system will work all the levers of power to marginalize, demonize, stereotype and disenfranchiseany threats to their power."

"... if the shit is going to hit the fan, so to speak, I think it’s going to start in a blue state."

Friday's Thoughs and Other Stuff (Thinking)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

Stack of books in Gould's Book Arcade,
Newtown, New South Wales, Australia. (ca 2009)
photograph by
Toby Hudson

Books
Several weeks ago, there was an article about decluttering. It's one of those articles that you see every year around this time as people work on their new year resolutions.

In the article, the author suggest, I believe it's TV personality Marie Kondo, to get rid of everything that doesn't bring you joy, including books.

I'm cool with that advice, except when it comes to prepping.

Fear
I look forward to the future. There is a lot of wonder approaching, longer lives, better health, the possibility of settling Mars, mining the asteroid belt, and even ... Flying Cars!

But, ...

There is a lot of bad, mainly stupid elected representatives and unelected officials that could plunge these United States into a civil war. A war that would be used by our adversaries, like Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, Iran, and China, not to mention our so-called friends, the European Union.

Now, ...

This war would disrupt our economy, our food supply, destroy our liberty, and, maybe, break up our country.

Did I mention, ... We might lose our libraries, too.

Equilibrium
In the movie, "a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death."

I'll stop right there because that's not where I'm going. I want to talk about two things.

Movies and Television
First, movies, short films, and television shows have a place in your preps. Just don't accept them mindlessly.

Take The Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead. In the shows, the characters make so many mistakes, they fail to secure appropriate shelter, fail to pack emergency evacuation kits, fail to make plans to rendezvous after an event, fail to ... The list is endless.

So, ...

Watch them and learn from their mistakes because prepping isn't about the excitement, the thrill, or the adventure of living through tough times. It is about having the skills, knowledge, supplies, and experiences to survive an event when it happens.

Second, I lied. I do want to talk to you about equilibrium, but in your family's preps.

Spiral Purchases
Now, in the beginning, it's easy to keep track of what you're trying to accomplish for your family, store some water, store some food, pack an emergency evacuation kit, purchase a handgun and get firearm's safety training for you and your family, and other basic preps.

Ooops, .. Not yet.

Emergency Preparedness
There is a profession; it is called Emergency Management. According to F.E.M.A., it "is the managerial function charged with creating the framework within which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters."

However, ... I like Wikipedia's better. Which says, it "is the organization and management of the resources and responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies (preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery)."

Thus, the name of this blog and its mission, to focus on emergency preparedness.

So, ...

This means, I attempt to bring a professional, organized, and researched approach to prepping, and so should you and your family.

Threat Analysis
Now, you and your family can be haphazard about your preps, like the little blurb above about my fear, going from one disaster du jour to the next disaster of the day, or you can be organized.

It's your choice because either will work, but being organized will allow you to get prepared with less money and less wasted time.

So, ...

The first thing, you and your family need to do, after you have made the decision to prep, is to develop a threat analysis. It involves a few sheets of paper, your family, and about an hour of your time

First, ...

Sorry, I have to go.

Volume Five: Number Two

Neige à Bruges
Georges-Émile Lebacq.
(1919)

As you have probably heard, several members of the House of representatives have submitted a bill to effectively ban semiautomatic firearms.

Currently the text of the bill is unavailable, so you have to believe me.

But, ...

The title of S.66 will probably give you an idea. The title is "A bill to regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.

But, ...

That's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about, ...

Compromise
First, from what I hear, the bill proposes deep restrictions on semiautomatic firearms. In one article, I see the possibility of all semiautomatic firearms being restricted because a firearm can't have the ability to accept a magazine or a pistol grip.

But, ... Like I said, that's not what I want to talk about.

I want to talk about our elected representatives, mainly Republicans and some Democrats.

Some of these people will want to compromise. They may say, 'If the Democrats remove the semi-auto restrictions, we should accept the so-called Universal Background Check.'

Just to make sure you understand, the 'Universal Background Check' will be a form of registration because every legal firearm transfer will have to go through a Federal Firearms Licenses holder. A transfer that is written down in a bound book, according to the law. The same law that allows ATFE agents to inspect the FFL's bound book.

Needless to say, it's just a tweak to the law or the creation of a regulation before all the information from those books are collected and entered into a national database.

Some Republicans and certain Democrats may want to compromise on magazines. They may propose a compromise to 15 round or 20 round magazines, to remove all of the firearms from the bill.

But, .. What's to keep a regulation from being implemented to lower the magazine capacity to 5 rounds or no rounds?

I'm going to stop, because the bill still isn't published and you know where I'm going.

So, ... Back to my point.

You and your family are going to have to step up you game. You are going to have to write those e-mails, one a week. You are going to have to contact the Republican National Committee  and let them know 'compromise is a non-starter.'

You're going to have to hold your elected representative accountable. If they compromise, they have to go.

You might even run for office to insure your family's liberty.

500 Days
If I did my math right, these United States consumes 20,000,000 barrels of oil a day.

$150,000
I suggests she start the cutoff at $25,000 less than an elected U.S. Representative makes a year.

Activist
They call her a Activist. I call her a Terrorist.

Bots
I haven't been keeping up with this issue, but it seems ...

Bubbles
How would you and your family be affected by a massive student loan default?

Census
Let me get this straight, ...

The federal government gives money to states for illegal aliens

And, ...

Illegal immigrants help determine how many Federal Representatives a states gets.

Children
Aad to say, .. These United States government endorses child molestation.

Eye Witness
Wow, ... Four people identified a white guy in a red pick-up.

And, ...

It was really two black guys.

Food
Just in case you didn't know it, ...

You can get on your phone, go to a website, order your food, and pick it up at the grocery store.

Except, ...

After a cyber event, EMP attack, or ... There is no physical grocery store.

Great Britain
First, they came for our guns.

Then, they came for our knives.

Now, they have come for our cheese toasties

Note:
My apologizes to Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemöller

Islam
The young lady has made it to Canada. Where she will have to deal with a lot of Muslim immigrants

Jobs
My condolences to the family and friends.

Land
As you have probably heard, ... They aren't making anymore.

Never Again
I am sadden, ... He didn't die with one of his former prisoners' hands around his throat.

Obstacles
Without observation, any obstacle is ineffective.

So, ...

Beside building a wall on our southern border, we need to staff it with people to prevent it from being damaged.

Question?
Who got the credit for removing the panel, Republicans or Democrats?

Either way, ...

It's a historically inaccurate plaque, the Civil War was a rebellion.

And, ...

The Children of the Confederacy had a really nice memorial, until they got all wacko about the whole rebellion and underlying cause thingy, in parathesises even.

Racist
The only problem, ...

So-called Race is a fictional classification, made up by people that want to oppress you and your family, like the Democrats did for over 150 years.

Republicans
All I have to say, ...

Talk is cheap. I want to see your actions.

In other words, ...

Are you a R.I.N.O. or a Republican?

Rookies
My condolences to the officer's family and friends.

With that said, ...

We, you and your family, are facing great dangers. Make sure your folks are well trained.

Shutdown
One of the great things about this federal government shutdown. It gives us an opportunity to ask, ...

Why is the federal government providing security services for corporations that are making money, hand over fist?

Space
Bloomberg is correct, 'China isn't winning the space race.'

But, ...

They are participating and building capabilities that will allow them to expand, improve, and surpass these United States.

Oooh, ...

As we have seen with Elon Musk, Google, Facebook, and others, the private sector is willing to help China in their causes.

Taxes
John James Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of these United States, said "The power to tax is the power to destroy." whatever the cause.

Tucker Carlson
I believe, he is asking the wrong questions.

He should be asking, Do we live in a Republic or an Oligarchy? Does the government preserve our freedoms or enslave us?

And, ...

What can we do to change it?

Tunnels
There will be more.

Wild Boars
We have a problem with wild pigs, around here. A sow can have a litter of eight to ten piglets, two times a year.

So, ...

Culling them is a great idea.

'Whites', 'Browns,' and ...
I wonder how many Latinos, Asians, and Whites face this problem, too.

White Guys
Yeap, ... White men are weirdos, too.

Vandals
Sad to say, ...

This isn't about the shutdown, as the media wants to report.

It's about a bunch of self-centered individuals vandalizing our national parks.

Venn Diagram
I think this idea is a big mistake for the company because the logo looks like a Venn diagram.

So, ...

One circle is high interest rates, the other circle is high fees, and the middle is people getting poorer.

Overheard:

"They see it as a something like a slave revolt."

"In other news, AOC was fined by New York State for failing to pay worker's comp for her campaign staff."

"More likely, nothing will replace it."

"he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" as "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - where all the testing says not really"."

"The last thing addicts what to hear is the truth:"

"Those who don’t believe in walls also apparently don’t believe in boundaries of any kind, including the line between right and wrong, legal and illegal. Without boundaries, there are no rules, especially the rule of law, in the land where, lately, anything goes and nothing matters. Clown though he be in so many ways, it ends up being Mr. Trump’s duty to assert that boundaries matter."

"As an organizing philosophy, it offers nothing, because it promises to do nothing."

"Uncountable crimes were perpetrated and justified in the name of that single word."

Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff (Thinking)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

The Library of Congress (ca 1902)
photograph by
Detroit Publishing Co.

Last week, I listed some fictional books that might help you and your family to get prepared for the tough times ahead.

Well, ...

Nonfiction
These types of books are books that deal in facts. They provide information that, to a certain extent, have been tested, by the author. Of course, they probably cover every subject that you might be interested in.

Take, ... Gardening.

* The Backyard Homestead: Produce all the food you need on just a quarter acre! (2009) by Carleen Madigan

* All New Square Foot Gardening, 3rd Edition (2018) by Mel Bartholomew

* Rodale's Ultimate Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening: The Indispensable Green Resource for Every Gardener (2018)by Deborah L. Martin

Or, ... Blacksmithing

* The Art of Blacksmithing by Alex Bealer

* A Blacksmithing Primer by Randy McDaniel

* Professional Smithing by Donald Streeter

How about, ... Cooking

Cooking with Food Storage Ingredients (unk) compiled by Adrie J. Roberts

Cooking with Food Storage Ingredients: Dry Beans (unk) Melanie Jewkes and Adrie Roberts

And, ...

Sources
Of course, the list of subjects is unless, like raising goats, building sheds, building a photovoltaic system, medical subject, shooting, warfare, and ...

One place is Backwoods Home. They have many different books and anthologies of their magazine.

Another is Storey Publishing. They also have many different books on a multiple of subjects.

Sad to say, Rodale Press is no longer in operations. They were bought up by Hearst Publishing, in 2017. There is good news, though, places like Thrift Books still has some of Rodale's organic gardening books, in stock, so does Amazon, but you're going to have to wade through similar books.

Another source is these United States' Army. The General Dennis J. Reimer Training and Doctrine Digital Library (RDL), now called the Army Doctrine and Training Digital Library, has many, many, many different military manuals on a variety of subject. The U.S. Marine Corps has also has many military manuals, on-line. The same goes for these United States' Air Force, such as ...

AF Handbook 10-644: SERE Operations

MCTP 3-01A: Scouting and Patrolling

and, ...

Sorry, I have to go.

(1923)

The Beginning
It's going to be a rocky start around here.

My housemate has moved out because he found a better paying job, moved closer to his family, and ...

So, ...

I have lost my internet access. I'm looking for a new place, and I'm also looking for a new position.

So, ...

You get what you get.

Doom and Gloom:

Things You Might Want to Think About:

10
There are certain perks, to being the World's Only Policeman

But, ...

We need to weight, as a country, the cost of intervening in any conflict.

Average
Before I begin, ...

Mr. Elon Musk is not 'smart.' He is a good showman because all of his ideas were proposed in the '30, 40s, and 50s or an adaptation of current technology.

Take the Hyper Loop.

I use it every time I go to the bank to make a drive-through window deposit. It's called a pneumatic tube.

Reusable Rockets? Can you say Flash Gordon, from the 30s?

Tunnels under L.A. or is it San Fransico? How the Subways System in New York, from the 1900s?

With that said, ...

It's was an interesting article that I plan to reread.

Cancer?
I wonder how long before the first lawsuit is filed accusing this new device of causing cancer

Comics
The Left hates it, when people speak truth to, their, power.

Costs
More reasons, some previously stated, about the need to stop illegal immigrant and limit legal immigration.

Disney
Remember, ... It's all about the money.

Drug War
We need to release more victims of the Drug War, ... Not.

Food Aid
Another reason other countries love these United States, ...

Our soldiers don't steal food aid.

Good and Bad
There is good; "combat gender-based violence, including criminalizing forced marriages, repealing legislation that previously allowed underage couples to marry, and allowing for victims of domestic abuse to apply for safety protection orders -- regardless of whether or not they live with their abuser."

And, ...

Bad, depending on how the law is used.

Illegal Immigrants
Wow, .... Women and Children.

Me?

I see a lot of men, healthy, able-bodied men that could join their countries' military and police to take back their countries from the gangs, start new businesses to pay their workers a 'living wage,' and reform their governments to protect the rights of the people.

Immigration
Ha, Ha, Ha, ..

Like most liberals, the writer of this article fails to make the distinction between illegal and legal immigrants, fails to realize so-called Dreamers are in this country illegally, and uses emotion and false imaging to try and persuade you don't have the right to protect your family.

Oooh, ...

Mr. Cullen forgets, we elected Mr. Trump, so he would build a wall.

Iran
I should have titled this 'Meddling' because that is what our country does.

With that said, ...

We have the right to defend ourselves; as a people, as a country, and as a nation. We also have a responsibilty to increase freedom throughout the world.

Ireland
Terrorists Some politicians are quick learners. Take al-Shabab.

They learned from the IRA

Jews
I have a lot to say about the nation of Israel because it is a bastion of freedom in a sea of oppression.

Also, ...

Israel has a lot to teach our country about terrorists living among us.

Power
Always remember, ... It's about power, pure naked power.

Oooh, ...

They are coming for your firearms because a disarmed people can't resist.

Predictions
When Mr. Charles Hugh Smith speaks, I listen.

Predictions
I hope Mr. Kunstler is wrong.

But, ...

Hope isn't a plan, so plan accordingly.

Red Hoodie
Oooh, ... I wonder what the motive was?

Revolution
First, ... It begins.

Second, ... I told you so.

Third, ... Always remember

Registration leads to confiscation.

Seattle
Aaah, ...

Superbugs
I love how Liberals blame Israel for the problems that the Palastinians' government created.

Because, ...

If they hadn't wanted to kill every Jew, tried to destroy the the nation of Israel, and ... Instead had worked with Israel. The Palastinian people wouldn't be facing this situation.

Oooh, ...

Since we accept refugees from this area of the world, our country is also facing this problem.

Tax Returns
Soo, ... Besides trying to confiscate your firearms, Democrats are going to force you to reveal your tax returns, if you are nominated for President or Vice President.

Well, ...

If it's good for the Gander, the President, it should be good for the Goose, every other federally elected official.

Terrorism
They hate you.

They will kill your women.

They will kill your children

They will kill you.

They need to die

UNESCO
Overall, the United Nations is an organization that needs to be supported, by these United States.

With that said, ...

We don't need to support every department of that cesspool.

War Crimes
It might take them a little while, but they will come for you.

Warnings
People have been telling us for years to get financially prepared for the tough times ahead.

So, ...

I have no sympaty, especially for federal government employees

Workers
I agree.

Overheard:

"So, let the circus begin on Capital Hill. Let them kick out the jams, as we used to say back in Woodstock era. Let Nancy Pelosi finish the work that the Democratic Party started with the election of 2016 — its own destruction as a viable political force. Let all the darkness and malice be wrung out of it so the country can return to its senses and start paying attention to things that really matter, backed by institutions that people of good faith can believe in."

"Financial crises, in contrast, remain a constant feature of the modern era, and developed-world nations are perhaps even more vulnerable to financial disorder than developing nations."

"Why exercise alone won’t save us"

"The question never considered is what happens when the warnings prove to be correct, but no one is taking notice."

Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff (Thinking)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

Family
I was talking to a guy at work. He mentioned that one of our coworkers comes from a big family, something like 13 children, and he has a big family, about seven children, and two of his daughters moved back to the family's home town, and they have several children, and two of our coworkers' brothers also live in town, and they are a close family.

Wow, ...

Think about the potential that one family has during an event. They are closely integrated, have a lot of family, have a variety of expertise, and ... They eat a lot of food.

Stories
When I was growing up, I was required to read Jack London's Call of the Wild. In one of the novella's scenes, I remember, two or three characters talking about the best  number of dogs to pull a sled.

In the scene, a younger character comments about how he is going to get 12 dogs to pull his sled, so he and his dog team can travel really fast to the Alaskan gold fields. Another character, an old timer, told him getting 12 dogs was a poor idea and to get only six dogs. Needless to say, the third character asks why only six dogs.

The old timer explained that a group of six dogs can carry all the food it needs to eat during a journey, while a group of 12 dogs can't carry enough food to make the journey, requiring the dog's owners to kill the dogs, ... reaching the gold fields at the same time.

Fiction
Normally, I'll tell you reading books like Wolf and Iron, Fire and Ice, Patriots: ..., Alas, Babylon, and many others are a waste of time.

But, ...

They are worth your time, especially if you critically think about the situations that are explored in the novels, novellas, and short stories.

Take World War Z by Max Brooks. In the book, the narrator interviews many people about their experiences during an overwhelming disaster, that starts slowly but quickly engulfs the world.

Or, ...

As you read One Second After by William R. Forstchen, ask yourself such questions, as ...

How did these characters answer the challenges of providing shelter, water, food, medical care, protection, and the other necessities required for survival?

What decisions did these fictional families make?

How did they make them? Did they use ...

Brain Storming
Yeap, ... Here's an example where family is important.

First, do you have a fifth grader or someone that has recently been through fifth grade, say the last five years?

If you do, stop reading. If you don't, read on.

With that said, ...

Brain Storming is a method of getting ideas or solutions to a problem, so people may consider them, later.

So, ...

First, you call your group together. It can be your family, a group of relatives, or a collection of people from work, sports teams, and other places.

Next, you explain the rules:

* There are No Dumb Ideas

* Don't Criticize Other People's Ideas

* Build on Other People's Ideas

* Reverse the Thought of 'Quality over Quantity'

Second, once you have all these ideas, you and a select group sift through the ideas and ask these questions:

Which Ideas are Feasible?

Which Ideas are Doable, with the resources at hand?

Which Ideas will Work, within your timeframe

Apologies
