Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff (The Other Stuff)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

photograph by
United States Navy

In these United States' Navy, there is a concept, if I remember correctly, called zero supply. Under this concept, certain items never fall below a specific level, like grease for the catapult. For preppers it might be stored water, long-term food storage, and .22LR ammunition.

Needless to say, everybody knows that, but, what about ...

The Other Stuff
What most preppers forget about is the minor things that aren't sexy, like ...

Dish Washing Detergent
Depending on the event, you and your family may have access to electrical energy, so you can run the dishwasher to get the dishes clean, but what happens when you lose power?

Your family can wash dishes by hand.

Now, I'm not going to boor you with the finer details of the ...

Chlorine Bleach
Having white shirts might not be considered a prepping need, but what happens when you go looking for a job? Don't you need to look your best, especially for those office jobs.

Needless to say, liquid bleach has other uses, but there are problems. It degrades after about a year, so you can always try to store pool shock, to make your own bleach.

Matches
I know, it is awesome to light a fire for friends and family with your ferro rod, but it's almost impossible to do that for a candle. Plus, with all those sparks you would probably have to take the candle outside to light.

So, ...

Ammunition Cans
Reusable metal ammo cans are the cat's meow. They are rugged, come in a variety of sizes, and are waterproof, for storing a multitude of stuff.

I use the 40mm ammo cans to store important books. The .50 cal. ammo cans to store important supplies, and the small .30 cal ammo cans to store ...

Of Course
There are a bunch of other forgotten items that you and your family need to store, such as ...

Feminine Hygiene Products
Guys, do you have women on your team?

Then you need to store those women specific supplies. like tampons, panty liners, and ... I don't know, ask your female partners!

Mouth Hygiene Products
Yeap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, dental floss, and ... mouthwash.

Body Hygiene Products
Oooh, ... Go ahead. Tell your wife she won't be able to take a shower or a bath during the event.  See what she has to say about that ; - )

Rotate, Rotate, Rotate
No matter what you do, you and your family need to use these supplies, so you can buy more, to use these supplies, so you can buy more, to use these supplies, so you can buy more, so you can use these supplies, to ...

Because that's what these United States' Navy does to insure their zero supplies are always the freshest, for when they're needed the most.
