Physical Fitness
Now, you and your family don't need to be physically fit or healthy to walk away from an event. Just understand it will be easier. Plus, you will be able to go further.

And, ... There is the whole issue of carrying your emergency evacuation kit as you leave with your children in your arms, right?

Faster, Further
So far, we have quickly talked about walking as the most reliable method for getting away from an event.

But, ... It's slow, very slow.

On average, most people can walk one mile in 20 or 25 minutes, but runners can cover the same distance in about 8 minutes. Cool.

But, .............

You knew that was coming ; - )

Runners can't carry several gallons of water, a few easy to eat meals, a wool blanket with a blue tarp to stay warm, a defensive handgun, and ... In other words, an emergency evacuation kit.

So, ... What's the next step up in getting away from an event.

Bicycles
Really, it's public transportation, but here in these United States, the public transportation system is crap; however, in Europe and Japan the public transportation system is awesome. Just as long as, your family doesn't mind getting blown up, molested, or punched, or ...

Attacked by enemy aircraft!

Hey, during a war or armed conflict with another nation, you and your family are going to face dangers that you have never experience!

Back to my point.

Bicycles will be able to add speed and distance for your emergency evacuation. They are relatively simple machines that will work, work, and work for many years, so your family can use them to stay healthy (turn off the t.v., the facebook, insta-telegram, and other distractions)

One Speed
The simplest bicycles are the one-speed bicycles with friction brakes. You know the ones from the China-Marts for $50, $60, and even cheaper on Black Friday.

Upgrades
You know me (get an SKS rifle because it's simple. It's ready to use, and it doesn't need any upgrades).

Well, ... You might want to upgrade the bicycles inner tubes to those foam ones. You know, the ones that won't go flat when your eldest daughter runs over a nail, as you flee the looting and burning of the so-called peaceful demonstrators.

Another upgrade is a rear mounted bike rack, like this one from Nashbar. It would allow your family to carry more supplies, in panniers, for your family to use during an emergency evacuation.

Ten Speeds
I apologize. I have to go ; - )
