Ten Speeds or More
Socialist Hipster, one of my housemates from several years ago, wanted a bicycle, so he could peddle to work. I had an extra one that I had gotten for free, so I gave it to him.

The bicycle was a ten speed from a China-Mart that needed new inner tubes, but he really want to spend $500 on a rebuilt ten speed.

Of course, he returned my bicycle, and he moved out soon after.

Well, ... Ten speeds are complicated compared to, what I used to call, Beach Cruisers. Those one speed, friction brake, fat tired bicycles that most people will rent on vacation. Yes, they are heavy, but they keep on chugging.

Borrowing
Now, around where I live, some group has started so-called Community Bike program. The bikes are one speed, friction brake, fat tired bicycles that end up all over town, instead of their designated bike racks.

Well, ... If you can't afford a bicycle this might be an alternative to getting out of town.

Motorcycles
Of course, bicycles are slow, so you might want to go faster, coool. (Yes, the pun was intended)

But, ... Like bicycles, they have problems that you need to know about.

First, they are hot in the summer. Cold in the winter. Are tough to ride in the rain and snow. Can't carry a lot of supplies. Can't carry too many passengers, unless you have a sidecar. Don't protect the operator, like a car.

And, ... So on.

What's a family to do?

Threat Analysis
Dang it. I lost my link to the Threat Analysis blurb.

Oh, well. You know by now that you and your family need to look at the threats facing your family.

If you're preparing for an economic collaspe, having a motorcycle might be a good idea to get around town, buy groceries, get to work, and ... use as a Get Away vehicle for assinations or hit-squads ; - )

If you're planning to haul a bunch of supplies, you and your family are going to need a ...

Car, Truck, Van, S.U.V., Crossover, or Etc
Of course, I have more to say, such as ...

Do you keep your vehicle's fuel tank, at least, half full?

Do you keep an emergency evacuation kit in your vehicle?

Check the oil, coolant, brake fluid, and other levels, like tire pressure, at least once a week?

Taken a defensive driving course, recently?

And much more.
