Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff (Food)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

Food
I've talked about this subject, a lot, in the last nine years.

And, ...

My thinking has evolved as I learned new things and had additional thoughts.

So, ...

Store Bought Food
For most preppers and their families, focusing on store bought food, also known as wet packed food, is probably the best way to get food for your family. It's readily available, relatively inexpensive, and ... your family already eats it, in their daily meals.

How Much?
Start off easy, with a three-day supply. Build up, to a two-week supply then Expand, to a three month supply ...

Of the food you and your family normally eat.

That's right. The normal bagged, boxed, canned, fresh, and frozen food you and your family normally eats.

Freezer
Most people don't think about this one 'casue they get focused on the really outlandish events, like a space alien invasion ; - )

Well, ...

We are, maybe, in the beginning stages of an economic collapse, so your family's chest freezer would be used to store meats and other frozen foods, on sale, to reduce your family's expenses.

Friends and Family
Of course, you have folks that your family is planning to provide for like Crazy Uncle Sam and Nice Aunt Bonny because they are both military veterans with critical skills and ... lots of guns and ammo ; - )

So, ...

The best way to do this is to purchase 365 pounds of white rice, 183 pounds of various types of dried beans, and 365 multivitamins for them to eat, per person, just in case.

Rotate
Yeap, this means you need to eat the food that your store.

That's why I suggest storing the 'normal' bagged, boxed, canned, fresh, and frozen food you and your family normally eat, every day.

This includes eating the rice, beans, and multivitamins that you are storing for friends and family.

Charity
Needless to say, a family of four storing food for ten people isn't going to be able to eat all those beans and rice.

So, ...

Find a local food pantry or charity to donate that food.

Tools
Like any other skill, cooking is going to require certain tools. Tools that should be a certain quality, not the 'best', and not the worst or cheapest.

Four Knives or Three, Plus Three More

Pots and Pans

and Other Stuff (I'm running out of time)

Grain Grinder

Coffee Pot or Tea Kettle

Thrift Stores and Garage Sales
Of course, don't break the bank or your budget buying this equipment.

And, ... Just like all other prepping equipment and supplies, make your planned purchases, over time, to amass your 'arsenal of goodness.'

And, ...

Don't forget that Christ's Mass and Birthday Gift List

Oooh, ... Bridal Shower and Wedding Presents, too
