Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff (Every Day Carry)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

A Man Sitting Under a Tree (ca unk)

Two Sisters
Before I begin, I want you to consider something, ...

Two little girls, 8 and 5 years old, survived for 44 hours with nothing but the clothes on their bodies, the contents of their pockets, and the knowledge in their heads.

That's right, ...

They had no food, no water, no bug out bag, nothing but some clothes and wilderness training, from camping trips, their parents, and the 4H, according to the mass media reports, Here, Here, and ...

O.K. ... Back to my the blurb

Every Day Carry
Right this minute, empty your pockets.

That's right, put everything on the table, desk, couch, .. where ever you're reading this blurb

Don't reach for anything, either!

What do you have?

I have a cellphone, an Apple 6S IPhone, a set of keys, and my wallet.

What are you wearing?

I'm wearing a watch, a Seiko 5 Sport, a leather belt, another set of keys, my work keys, a pair of jeans, a dress shirt, wool socks, and a pair of steel toed leather boots.

Not much is it?

What about what is in your head?

Can you build a shelter with materials at hand? How about start a fire? Find and gather water? How about boiling the water, so it's safe to drink?

Notice, ... I didn't ask about food.

Can you signal a potential rescuer? Treat a minor injury?

I'll stop because you probably get my point ...

What is in your head, your knowledge, is as important as what is in your pockets.

And, ...

These two little girls prove this again.

So, ...

Skills
As you get prepared for the tough times ahead, I want you to learn some wilderness skills.

The first skill is ...

Hug A Tree
If you read the article, about the two girls, they traveled over a mile from home, before stopping. An adult will travel, if I remember correctly, over 6 miles before stopping!

So, ...

The first skill that I want you to teach your partner, your children, and yourself is to ...

Stop and Hug a Tree

Next, ...

Stay Warm

Lastly, ...

Help the Searchers by answering their calls

Needless to say, ... I'm going to stop here because I have included three great links about the "Hug A Tree and Survive" program that offer a lot more information, for you, your partner, and your family.

More Information
If you have been reading here for any length of time, you know I like providing you with lots of information because you and your family may have to use your knowledge to cover a unique situation.

So, ...

There are three more links about surviving getting lost.

Shelter and Fire
The next bushcraft or wilderness survival skill that I want you and your family to learn is how to build a primitive shelter and make a fire.

Needless to say, ...

There are more links, to some videos on these subjects.

So, ...

Let us move on to what, I think, you should be carrying in your pockets.

The First Plastic Credit Card
with a Magnetic Stripe (ca unk)
photograph by
Arthahn

Credit or Debit Card and Some Cash
That's right!

You need to have a credit card/debit card with overdraw protection with some money in your wallet or purse. Depending on your credit limit, you will be able to rent a hotel or motel room to provide shelter for your family, buy some food from a restaurant or grocery store to feed your family, make the copay at an urgentcare or emergency room to provide medical care for your family, and do a host of other things to provide for your family, including buying a pizza for when your partner doesn't feel like cooking

The next item, I think, you need is a ...

A Nokia Cellphone (ca 2012)
photograph by
CLS Research Office

Cellphone
What one device can summon emergency medical care, armed response, summon a vehicle to take you home, to the hospital, or on a date, and get food delivered to your door?

And, ...

Has the ability to send a written message, take pictures, help your memory, and calculate a tip for the food delivery driver?

Needless to say, ...

A so-called smartphone allows you to download several applications, such as a mapping and compass app, first-aid app for you and your pets, and others, at a small fee or with advertisements.

The next item, I think, is a little controversial, especially in Great Britain, schools, airports, government buildings, offshore oil platforms, and a lot of other places. It is a ...

A Package of Three Knives
from
a regional Farm and Home Store (ca 2018)

Knife
You, your partner, and your children need a pocket knife. A small one for cutting things like rope, notching a stick for a trap, and protecting yourself.

The knife doesn't have to be expensive, especially with the possibility that it might be confiscated by an overzealous security officer.

As an example, ...

I was able to purchase three knives for under $8.00, when one of the regional farm and home stores was clearing out their Christ Mass gifts, at the beginning of this year.

The next item, I think, you and your family need is a way to make ...

Several Kinds of Gas Lighters (ca 2004)
Source
de:User:Peng

Fire
When I was younger, I always had a lighter or matches on me. Now that I'm older and wiser, and a nonsmoker, I never have a way of making fire, except what I can improvise from the material around me.

With that said, ...

You and your family have several options.

You can carry a inexpensive, no name butane lighter like one you find at a convenience store, or a little bit more expensive model like a Bic. You and your family could purchase a fire steel then learn how to effectively use it.

Or, ...

You can go totally retro and carry a Zippo lighter.

Lastly, ...
These are the items, except for the credit card, every member of the family can carry in their pockets to increase their chance to survive during tough times, for a wide variety of events.

Needless to say, ...

There are other items that you and your family may want to have during certain disasters, but that is another blurb.

So, ...

I'll see you next week?

Friday's Thoughts and Other Stuff (The $75 Defensive Rifle)

Dear Preppers and Survivalists,

Sgt Jim Meek armed with a C7A1 assault rifle,
during Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) training  (ca 1996)
photograph by
LCpl. R. L. Kugler, Jr.

Previously
In the past, I have advocated for you and your family to purchase a SKS rifle because they are inexpensive, generally available, don't look like a typical defensive rifle, especially with the spike bayonet removed, and don't require expensive magazines.

Well, ...

History
Many decades ago, a SKS rifle could be purchased for $75, maybe $100, so it made financial sense for a family of four to purchase SKS rifles, until President George Herbert Walker Bush, Bush 41, banned the importation of certain semi-automatic rifles.

Fast forward a decade, the Democrats controlled the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Presidency, so they implemented several gun-control measures, notably the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, in 1994.

Because of these gun-control measures and inflation, now a days, SKS rifles start at $350 and quickly increase from $450 to $900, per rifle.

Ouch, ...

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I know the more expensive rifles are so-called collector-type rifles from the former soviet union that should be avoided by preppers and their families.

Currently
I still stand by the suggestion for a family to purchase SKS rifles, but these United States has been in a worldwide armed conflict for the last 18 years, the sunsetting of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, and a gun-control push by President Obama has increased the supply of inexpensive AR-15 style firearms and their standard capacity magazines.

So, ...

It might make financial sense for a family of four to purchase an AR-15 style rifle for everyone in the family, especially 'If' you and your family focus on, as Uncle from Say Uncle says, the Ford and Chevy of AR-15 rifles, such as the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine, Smith and Wesson M&P 15, the Ruger AR-556, but, these rifles are still in the $700 range.

Plus, you still have the cost of, at least, seven magazines.

Cheaper
If you are thinking about purchasing an AR-15-style rifle, I prefer the M4A3 Patrolman's Carbine, from Bushmaster, This rifle has a chrome-lined barrel and chamber, and it has the detachable carrying handle with attached sights. This means the rifle is ready to use because you don't have to purchase a separate sight.

With that said, ....

You and your family could build an AR-15 style rifle for about $75.

Receiver
To build your rifle, the first thing you are going to need is the lower receiver. This is the part that has the serial number, so you will need to buy it from a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer.

Now, ... This isn't exactly true.

As a citizen, you have the right to purchase from another citizen at a gunshow, from a newspaper advertisement, or a friend. This is known as a private purchase, but it has to be in person, no going through the mail or shipping the lower receiver directly to your home.

With that said, ... Most people will purchase their lower receiver from a local FFL dealer, like I did.

Aero Precision AR-15 Lower Receiver

The above receiver cost $75, plus taxes, for a total of $82.32, from a local gunstore. I could have purchased a less expensive receiver from Palmentto State Armory for $49.99 with a transfer fee of $30, for a total of $80, but I would have had to wait a few weeks because of shipping times.

Either way, ... Once you have your lower receiver, you can purchase all of your other parts directly from a retailer. No need for a FFL dealer to transfer the parts.

Lower Receiver Parts
The next items you are going to need are the lower receiver parts. These parts are the various springs, hammer, trigger, buffer, buffer tube, pistol grip, buttstock, and other assorted parts.

Now, ... You can order these parts individually or as a set, from various retailer such as Palmetto State Armory, Brownell's, or several others.

Palmetto State Armory Lower Receiver Parts Kit

For me, I decided to go with the above parts kit, with free shipping. It had the collapsible buttstock, pistol grip, and all of the other parts to complete a lower receiver.

O.K., ...

Once you have your lower receiver parts kit, you are ready to assemble the lower receiver.

Needless to say, ...

There are a bazillion videos showing you and your family how to assemble a lower receiver, such as ...

Link:
YouTube: nsz85 - Build Your AR-15 Lower Receiver!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1omm6jY7Gg

Brownell's - Assembling Lower Receiver
https://www.brownells.com/aspx/learn/learndetail.aspx?lid=11011

Full360: IraqVeteran888 - How To AR-15 Lower Receiver Build
https://www.full30.com/watch/MDEwOTc2/how-to-ar-15-lower-receiver-build

Of course, once you have your completed lower receiver, you need an upper receiver.

Upper Receiver
You have several choices for an upper receiver. You can buy it as separate parts, the actual receiver, barrel, bolt carrier group, charging handle, and several other parts, but you are going to need several tools.

Or, ...

You can purchase an almost complete pre-assembled upper receiver, ready to place on your lower receiver.

Me, ...

I want with an almost complete pre-assembled upper receiver

Palmetto State Armory M4 Freedom Upper Receiver

Needless to say, you can purchase these from several places, like Brownell's, Palmetto State Armory, and ... Many Others.

Heck, you can purchase a whole rifle, minus the lower receiver, from Sarco, Inc, ... as parts

But, ...
That's right. I told you; you could get a rifle for $75, and it's true.

Once you purchase your lower receiver, you just have to save you money. At $75 a week or a month to purchase these items, you will have a rifle ... for $75, and another $75, and another $75, and another ...

Lies
Needless to say, ... Some folks will say that I lied to you and your family. They will say that you can't get an M-16 series rifle for $75.

And, ...

They are wrong, very wrong.

Think about this scenario.

Soldiers are hungry, or they want to get drunk but have no money. What can they sell to you and your family?

Their uniforms? Na, they need them for the walk home.

Their tools? Everybody already has enough tools.

Their rifles? Of course, especially if it is stolen during a training exercise.

Needless to say, ... The lower receiver is the part with the serial number, so you buy their rifle, dump the government's lower receiver and build up an AR-15 with the parts on your lower receiver.

Lastly
There are a lot of dark clouds on the horizon for owning an AR-15, so buying a few lower receivers, now, will give you and your family an opportunity to build one when money isn't tight.

So, ...

Think about it, and get ready for the tough times ahead.

Journey
I will be ending my efforts, on Monday's, to inform you and your family about the impending events, facing your family and friends. There are many reasons for this decision.

First, .... Lack of time.

To keep up with posting a bunch of links, I have to incessantly surf the internet, trying to find articles that might give an indication where we are headed. As you can see, these last few years, it isn't good, which leads to my next reason.

Second, ... An event will happen

Disregarding the minor, reoccurring, everyday events, like a vehicle crash, workplace accident, minor illness, unemployment, winter storm, power outage, hurricane, heatwave, tornado, earthquake, and so one; we are facing serious financial and political events here in our country.

Third, ... My family and I need to prepare

Writing takes away from my preps. Preps that will allow me, my family, and those I am responsible for to survive. This includes getting an education, so I may increase my salary, clearing land, so we may plant more food, starting and expanding several businesses, so we may have alternate income, and trying to prevent some of these political and economic, so we may have a few more years to prepare.

Lastly, ... Others

There are many other people and groups, highlighting the forces of the coming chaos, like Ol' Remus, The Z Man, Charles Smith, James Kunstler, the writes at Ace of Spades, and The Federalist, and many others. Heck, even the BBC has started asking questions about the forces facing our individual and collective survival.

Things You Might Want to Think About:

$595
Ha, ha, ha ... for a jacket that he could have bought for $50

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Wow, ... She is just like David Hogg, claiming she was targeted by a mass shooter.

Child Molester
The scumbag should never have made it to prison, except to swing from the end of a rope.

Control
I am glad the Atlantic thinks like me.

In other words, ...

The New Green Deal is about control. Control of you and your family.

Gun Control
My condolences to their family and friends

Ha, Ha, Ha
No one noticed until they got into record-breaking snowfall.

Immigrants
Yeap, ... We gave him a green card, for being a refugee.

Yeap, ... We gave him citizenship fro being a good person.

Yeap, ... We should take his life for being a combatant

Media
There is a difference from making a mistake and telling a lie.

The first will cause the media to lose some of their reputation. The other might cost them millions.

Regrets
These United States are a horrible, terrible, evil place.

Until, ...

You see the rest of the world, especially the Middle East.

True Story
As you read this story, I want you to think about the ways you will provide medical care for you and your family, during a violent conflict, like a civil war or invasion.

And, ...

Always remember, War, including Civil War, is about killing and dying.

Terrorists
There is so much going on in this article, so I want you to think about some of it.

If you were investigated, what would your internet search records show? Prepper or Terrorist?

If you home was raided, how many firearms and how much ammunition would they be able to display for the media? What about your kit?

With that said, ...

Notice, the article's writer calls them illegal weapons.

The writer fails to mention that Tramadol is addictive, so the dude could be a junkie, along with possibly being a crazy dude.

Notice, the dude is called a white nationalist, not a supremacist.

Lastly, ....

This will probably be used to bash white people, as White Supremacists

Wondering
I have a question, ...

Muslim or Christian?

Black or White?

Liberal or Conservative?

Overheard:

"... and the result will be... more of the same as central banks are forced to monetize even more debt to keep interest rates from rising to a level that sends the entire house of cards tumbling down."

"... only a nut would accept the story at face value."

"Despite the anything-goes quality of American culture, one thing remains verboten to say publicly:the U.S. Constitution has failed."

They are the canary in the coal mine, (scroll to 'Demographic Imperatives:')

Weather
We have talked about how you and your family need to focus on the common events, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, winter weather, unemployment, and other common disaster.

But, ...

Do you know how hot it gets? How about how cold, in your home city?

What about the places that you might evacuate to?

Reason
Now, ... I have a reason to ask that question.

Earlier this week, I was walking from my car to the apartment and got to thinking, ...

What would I need to survive for a day when the temperature was 9°F?

Needless to say, ...

That got me to thinking about the monthly average highs and lows, and what are the extreme highs and lows for each month.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs,

The Priorities
You have probably heard of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. If you haven't, read the first two paragraphs of the link. It explains it.

If you're interested in learning more, read further.

With that said, ...

Rule of 3 to 5
Similar to the hierarchy of needs is a general rule found throughout prepping.

It goes something like this:

Now, ... There is more to this rule, but I'm not going to bore you, with the details, yet. Maybe later.

Shelter
You are probably wondering where I am going with this, so let me ask you a question.

What are you and your family going to do when you home is ablaze in the middle of winter?

Ya, ya, ... I know you and your family are going to immediately leave the house., you have homeowner's or renter's insurance, so you have money for a hotel, ...

But, ...

What are you going to do to stay warm, as you wait for the fire fighters to show up?

Where are you going? The next door neighbors?

Do they know, you're coming?

Do you have warm clothes because, like me you sleep in a thin pair of pajamas?

Stopping
I'm going to take a break, so I'll see you next week.

Volume Five: Number Seven

A Winter's Day
Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov
(1934)

Threats
There are many threats facing your family, friends, and coworkers, some more likely to happen; such as accidents, divorces, stress, earthquakes, house fires, unemployment, vehicle crashes, credit fraud, sickness, inactivity, slips, trips, and falls; those last three are for you safety professionals, while others are less likely to happen; such as civil wars, asteroids, financial collapses, cyber attacks, exploding supervolcanes, invasions by another country, nuclear attacks, and ...

But, ... Did you know that you and your family are a threat to yourselves?

Yes, it is true. Your family's thoughts and actions could be a danger to you and your family during an event.

Let me give you some examples.

* You are driving down the street and see a young lady standing next to the rear of the front vehicle while a young man is standing next to the front of the rear vehicle. They appear to be talking to each other.

Do you stop to help or call the police?

* It is tough times. A child, say in their early teens, comes to your door asking for food.

Do you give them some food or do you send them to the local church?

* You and your partner see the coming disaster that well start in the next few years.

Do you suggest to your co-workers to get prepared? How about so-called friends, more like acquaintances? Close family that are a little shady or ne'er-do-wells?

* Some countries, including ours, are on the road towards Socialism.

Do you embrace it or do you fight it?

Needles to say, there are many events where helping your fellow humans will be a positive for you and your family, but there are certain events where helping, in any way, could get you and your family killed.

So, ...

Understand, there are threats that you and your family can not see because we live such a prosperous life

With the introduction of the internet, people were able to easily share information about a variety of subjects, mainly academic research. Once the internet exploded, almost everyone was able to learn from others, about a multitude of subject.

Well, ...

The internet has also allowed people to provide services that provide pleasure, even relief from medical conditions, for profit.

Brexit
Wow, ... Such a big effect for such a tiny island.

But, ...

When a group of people start saying globalization is the wrong path for their country, other people start looking to see if the same is true for their country.

Crowds
As Ol' Remus says, .. Stay Away From Crowds!

Democrats
They didn't ask her to step down, resign her seat, or ...

Like they do to Republicans

Ha, Ha, Ha
So, .. A state is suing the federal government because the federal flood-control program stops the Mississippi river from moving to that state.

Ha, Ha, Ha, Again
So, .. There are a group of people that confront armed people, to see if they will get shot or arrested.

Illegal  Immigrant
Yes, ...

That is a tattoo of a cross on his forehead.

Jihadists
Yeap, ...

We need to allow Muslims from England, Iraq, France, Syria, Germany, Iran, Israel, and any other country because we need to have more car bombs in our cities, a driver plowing down pedestrians on our streets, shootings at our Christmas parties, ...

London
I'm glad that people are recognizing that London has a crime problem.

I'm also glad that people are offering suggestions to reducing their crime problem.

So, ... Here's my suggestion.

Allow citizens to exercise their right to carry a concealed firearm.

Magic Sign
You see them everyday, but ...

They don't work, especially for criminals

With that said, ...

Leading up to the American Revolution of 1776 and the Civil War of 1861-1865, our country became more violent and more partisan as we grew closer to these events.

Mark Kelly, the former astronaut, is gun-control an anti-freedom activist.

Nigerians
99% chance they are 'Black'

Of course, ...

The most likely killer of a so-called Black man is another Black man. The same goes for so-called White men and women.

Recession 2019-2021
Has it started?

Superpower
Nope, ... Not a Superpower, not even close.

Think
Sometimes, ... We need to just leave it alone.

War
Are you and the company you work for prepared to lose the ability to easily communicate with distant offices and customers?

How about navigate or make deliveries without GPS?

Whites
Ha, ha, ha, ...

I guess we need to only show 'Black' people in February, since it is so-called Black History month.

Women
First, ... If possible, help identify these people.

Second, ... Women are targets, even in 'good' times.

Third, ... People like this deserve to die, a long, slow, very painful death.

Overheard:

"I had to chuckle at the idea that less than half a million Federal LEOs will voluntarily go out and get ugly on at least 80 million gun owners who have a low ball 300 millions firearms and between a trillion and 2 trillion rounds of ammunition in their stashes."

"Most of the data we put online is now siloed on the servers of companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter, and used to sell us as an audience for targeted advertising."

"... and now some light may be about to shine on them."

"History books may airbrush out the Left's ubiquitous failures, thus enabling their fatal resurgences, but the lamp-posts remember how once they dangled their morbid ornaments."

"The fight for freedom will be long and require patience too."

"The Federal Reserve's sudden return to "accommodative" dovishness in response to thestock market's swoon telegraphs its intent to fire up QE once the recession kicks into gear."

"Shall we begin?"

"If I had known this, I would hire somebody to give Dianne Feinstein a box of Godiva Chocolates and a mercy fuck."
