Welcome Preppers and Survivalists,
A couple of years ago, a simple saying started popping up amongst preppers and survivalists.
Two is One, and One is None
On the surface, it's a simple and elegant saying that means if you have two of an item, you should consider it as only having one of those items. If you have only one of an item, you should consider that you 'really' have none of that item.
But,
It's deceptive because the saying will cause you to spend more on prepping and survival then you really need.
Let me explain.
If you're the typical family, you have a partner and 2 or 3 children, say 5 people. How many guns do you need? If you use "2 is 1, and 1 is none" mentality you'll need 10 handguns, 10 rifles, and 2 rounds of ammo for each of the firearms ; - )
Not really, on the ammo, but you get my point. You really need 5 handguns and some spare parts, same for the rifles. Ammunition wise, you will need 500 to 1500 rounds of pistol/revolver ammo and 1000 to 1500 of rifle ammo, total.
Next, have you ever seen a worn out hatchet or axe? How about a worn out hammer or sledge hammer? I haven't, but I have seen broken axe and sledge hammer handles.
Lastly, to drive my point home, do you need two tents, per person? two sleeping bags? two pocket knives, two signal mirrors, two ... You get the point.
Make sure that you and your family 'think' about what you need, not 'want' like some mindless consumer.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. There are going to be many things that you want to have two methods of doing, like starting a fire, filtering water, making a shelter, treating an injury, and ...
But,
These are methods (knowledge) of doing something.
That's different.
